Notice the sign ᚺ: two vertical stems linked by a diagonal, inside a fine circle. Which detail catches your attention first? Explore the image and connect that detail with your question: gestures, shapes and contrasts open up new associations.

Hagalaz: interpretation

Which small action could restore direction while acknowledging the change?

A reading step by step

Explore the three positions of Elder Futhark runes with this example. Place the images in the stated order and follow each row’s ideas. Then connect the three themes: how does the perspective change from one position to the next?

• First element · Hagalaz: An interruption separates what you planned from what is now possible.
• Second element · Nauthiz: A need deserves a more precise description than an immediate solution.
• Third element · Isa: A pause can protect attention while information is missing.

History and inspiration

The Elder Futhark brings together twenty-four writing signs. This collection presents them in original drawings so you can recognise each rune and compare their shapes. Our present-day readings connect the signs with resources, cooperation and taking a pause, beginning with your question.
